Who We Are (Controller Identity)
Puente is developed and operated by Labyrinth BJJ LLC, based in Houston, Texas, United States. For purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable privacy laws, Labyrinth BJJ LLC is the data controller for any personal data processed in connection with the Puente application and website.

What Data We Collect (and What We Don't)
Puente is designed from the ground up as a privacy-first application. The vast majority of data the app processes never leaves your device. The table below summarizes what is and is not collected.
- Microphone audio input (processed in real-time, never stored or sent)
- Selected source and target languages
- Personal Vocabulary entries you explicitly add
- In-app purchase receipts (via Apple StoreKit)
- App settings and preferences (stored locally)
- Aggregate crash logs (via Apple's crash reporter, no audio)
- Voice recordings or audio files of any kind
- Conversation content or transcripts
- Account credentials (no accounts exist)
- Email address or personal profile
- Device advertising identifiers (IDFA)
- Location data
- Contacts, photos, or other sensitive data
- Behavioral analytics or usage profiling
Personal Vocabulary
If you use the Personal Vocabulary feature, the words and phrases you add are stored exclusively in your device's local app storage. This data is never synced to our servers and is deleted if you uninstall the app. You can clear your vocabulary at any time from the app's settings.
Purchase Data
When you purchase Puente Pro ($4.99) or a Profession Pack ($3.99), the transaction is processed entirely by Apple. We receive a receipt confirmation from Apple's StoreKit framework confirming entitlement, but we never receive or store your payment information, Apple ID, or credit card details.
How We Use Data
Because Puente processes nearly everything on-device, data use is minimal and transparent:
- To provide translation services: Audio is captured from your device microphone, transcribed and translated using on-device AI models, then the audio buffer is immediately discarded. No copy of the audio is retained.
- To honor purchases: Receipt data from Apple StoreKit is used solely to unlock Puente Pro features and Profession Packs on your device.
- To improve app stability: Anonymized, non-audio crash diagnostics may be reported to Apple's crash reporting system to help us fix bugs. These reports do not contain any conversation content.
- To respond to support requests: If you contact us at support@puente.app, we use the information you provide in that email solely to respond to your inquiry.
We do not use any data for advertising, behavioral profiling, or machine learning model training.
On-Device Processing
Puente uses Apple's on-device speech recognition frameworks and our own bundled offline language models to perform all transcription and translation locally. This means:
- Translation works with no internet connection for all 8 fully offline languages.
- Your voice audio is processed by the chip inside your phone and never transmitted to any server — including Puente's.
- Puente has no backend database that stores user conversations, sessions, or profiles.
- Offline languages supported: English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Arabic, and Portuguese.
- The remaining 136 languages may use Apple's server-side speech APIs. In those cases, Apple's own privacy policy governs that processing — Puente receives only the transcribed text, not the audio, and does not store that text.
Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics providers. The following limited third-party interactions exist:
- Apple, Inc.: Puente is distributed through the Apple App Store. Apple processes purchase transactions and may collect diagnostic data under its own privacy policy. Puente has no control over Apple's data practices. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Apple Speech APIs (non-offline languages): For languages not available offline, audio processing may route through Apple's servers per Apple's privacy framework. We do not receive or retain the audio.
- No analytics SDKs: Puente does not embed any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs (no Firebase, no Amplitude, no Mixpanel, no Facebook SDK).
- No cloud infrastructure: We operate no backend servers that receive, store, or process your audio or translation data.
If Puente is ever acquired, user data will remain subject to this privacy policy. We will notify users via an updated in-app notice before any material change to data sharing practices.
Data Retention
Because Puente does not collect or store personal data on our servers, there is no user data for us to "retain" in the traditional sense. Data that exists only on your device is under your full control:
- Audio input: Processed in real-time and discarded immediately. Retention time: zero.
- App preferences and vocabulary: Stored locally on your device. Deleted when you uninstall the app or clear app data in iOS Settings.
- Purchase receipts: Stored locally by StoreKit and managed by Apple. We do not maintain a copy.
- Support emails: If you email us at support@puente.app, we retain that correspondence only as long as needed to resolve your inquiry, or up to 12 months, whichever is shorter.
GDPR Rights (EU/EEA Users)
If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, the GDPR grants you specific rights over your personal data. Because Puente processes only minimal data, exercising most of these rights can be accomplished directly on your device. For any server-side data (limited to support email correspondence), you may contact us to exercise the following rights:
Legal Basis for Processing
Where we process personal data under GDPR, our legal bases are:
- Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)): Processing your purchase receipt to deliver the features you purchased.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)): Receiving anonymized crash reports to maintain app stability. Our interests do not override your fundamental rights.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): Microphone access, which iOS requests explicitly before any audio processing begins. You may revoke consent at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
Supervisory Authority
EU/EEA users have the right to lodge a complaint with their local data protection supervisory authority if they believe their data rights have been violated. A list of supervisory authorities is available at edpb.europa.eu. We encourage you to contact us first at support@puente.app so we can resolve your concern directly.
CCPA Rights (California Residents)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) provide you with specific rights regarding your personal information.
Categories of Personal Information Collected
In the past 12 months, Puente has collected the following categories of personal information as defined by the CCPA: device identifiers (only within Apple's StoreKit framework for purchase validation) and internet or network activity (only if you email support). We have not collected geolocation data, biometric data, commercial information beyond purchase receipts managed by Apple, or inferences drawn from any personal information.
Your California Rights
- Right to Know: You may request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected, the sources, the business purposes, and the categories of third parties with whom we share information.
- Right to Delete: You may request deletion of personal information we have collected. For on-device data, uninstalling Puente deletes all local data immediately.
- Right to Correct: You may request correction of inaccurate personal information we hold.
- Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing: Puente does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. There is nothing to opt out of.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@puente.app with the subject line "CCPA Request." We will respond within 45 days.
Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Puente is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because Puente requires no account creation and collects no personal information beyond what is described in this policy, we believe the risk of inadvertent collection from children is minimal.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us (e.g., by emailing support), please contact us at support@puente.app and we will promptly delete that information.
For users between 13 and 17, parental consent may be required depending on jurisdiction. The App Store's own age rating and parental controls apply to Puente's distribution.
Accessibility & Title VI Compliance
Puente is designed to support language access in public accommodations and government services under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Our privacy-first, offline-capable approach ensures that users can access translation services without requiring an internet connection or disclosing personal data — a critical feature in sensitive legal, medical, and governmental contexts.
We are committed to making Puente accessible to users with disabilities in compliance with applicable accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1 AA.
Security
Because Puente does not transmit personal data to our servers, the primary attack vector of a server-side data breach does not apply. Your data is as secure as your device.
We recommend keeping your iOS device updated to the latest software version to benefit from Apple's security patches. If you believe you have discovered a security vulnerability in Puente, please disclose it responsibly by emailing support@puente.app.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in law, our practices, or the app's features. When we make material changes, we will:
- Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
- Post a notice within the Puente app on the next launch after the update.
- For significant changes affecting how data is used, provide at least 30 days notice before the change takes effect.
Your continued use of Puente after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
